Timothy Doherty, 2023

Tim will be attending Villanova University. Although he has not declared a major yet, he plans to study communications or media. Tim definitely plans to stay involved with writing articles and doing sports coverage at Villanova similar to his experience at SJR. He was drawn to media through his love of sports, because of this he plans to explore the field of broadcasting during his college career.

Growing up, Tim took pride in researching all the players of his favorite teams and trying to know as much as possible about them. This grew into a love for pretty much all sports and just trying to be familiar with anything and everything involving athletics. Once Tim got to SJR, he was always at the sporting events for every team, he felt inspired to write articles and do recaps for the school newspaper and media club. The exposure to being around sports, covering sports at SJR and following his favorite professional players and teams ultimately grew into his passion for media. His ultimate career goal is still up in the air but his dream would be to work for a professional sports team either as a broadcaster or stats analyst. He will be declaring his major after his sophomore year with the hope of interning at a professional sports team that summer.

When Tim is not covering sports for his school he enjoys playing basketball, soccer, and football with friends. Anything that keeps Tim active and outside he his open to playing and participating. At SJR, he was an executive Green Knights ambassador, wrote for the Guardian Newspaper and media club, worked for the Aegis Yearbook, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Over the summers, he volunteers at a special needs camp through the Marist Brothers in Esopus, and also volunteers for the Green Knights Basketball Camp.

Peter attends the University of Oklahoma where he is studying Sports Media, Psychology and minoring in Journalism.  At OU, Peter is a member of the football team but is a lover of all sports. After finishing his college football career, he plans on taking a shot at the NFL as this is his ultimate dream. Depending on how things work out, will determine when Peter begins his career in sports broadcasting.

Besides playing four years of varsity football at SJR, Peter also was a Knight Ambassador, a student council senator, a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the varsity track team, an SJR tutor for younger students, and the recipient of the Tony Karsich leadership award. He is also very passionate about charity work having founded a charity for a fellow student suffering from cancer. He is also a board member of Behind the Seams, a very successful event benefiting Eva’s village. Peter has also participated with Tim Tebow’s Night to Shine, Back Packs for Life, the Buddy Walk for Down's Syndrome and the Covenant House sleep-out.

Peter currently speaks at events for AIM, an organization that is focused on empowering people to overcome obstacles in their lives as Peter overcame several childhood illnesses to get where he is today. Peter hopes that through all his public speaking, he will someday become a successful broadcaster in the sports world. He believes this will give him a platform to tell others stories while talking about topics he truly enjoys.

William Tallant, 2021

William attends Fordham University. He is majoring in Film and Television while minoring in Sports Journalism. After obtaining his degree, his ultimate career goal is to become a sportscaster. The inspiration of this career goal actually came when Will was in the 8th grade. He went to a small Catholic school from grades K-8. The 8th grade class was required to perform a Shakespeare play as part of their final English grade. His class was given Hamlet. Having no previous acting experience at all, Will was given the role of Prince Hamlet, one of Shakespeare’s most famous characters. This was definitely one his biggest obstacles to climb over before entering St. Joseph Regional and he would have never done it without the help of one of the production’s producers, Colleen Bennedetto. Colleen was a tremendous help when it came to truly understanding the script, shaking the nerves in front the audience, and handling all of the politics that came with having this role. Will stayed in touch with Colleen after his middle school days and when he was a sophomore at SJR, she wondered if he had ever considered pursuing a broadcasting career. Will didn’t make much of her question until he really sat down and said to himself, “This is something I could definitely do.” With his ability to articulate in front of crowds of people combined with his knowledge and passion for the game of baseball, nothing can, nor ever will, hold him back from accomplishing his broadcasting dream.

During his time at St Joe’s Will participated in many clubs and activities that contributed to his career goal. He was a writer/editor for the Guardian Newspaper. writing all kinds of sports articles about Major League Baseball and articles about all of the sports at SJR. He was a reporter for the SJR Media Club. This entailed going to different school sporting events and giving live updates on the official SJR athletics Twitter page, @SJRAthletics1. He was a SJR Knights Ambassador. This club is what taught him the value of public speaking. Will would conduct many individual and group campus tours to prospective students throughout each school year during his time at St. Joe’s. Finally, he was a member of the baseball program at SJR for four years. In his senior season, the team had a record of 27-2 and achieved the triple crown, a very rare accomplishment. The team won their division, county, and state championships.
